Jack: I've been thinking about our adolescence. There isn't any transitional battleground left for us anymore. I just felt as though we surrendered our lives to the momentum of mediocrity. I mean, what happened to all that celestial fire that used to light our way?
Wife: Oh Jack no, listen honey. You know all those fires are alot of trouble. They cause alot of trouble. Fires are hard to control. They flare up, they burn alot of energy and then they suddenly die.
Jack: I just wanna tell you something. That's bullshit.
Wife: No thats not bullshit. A good steady warm glow, you know, that does the trick over the long run.
Jack: No fire, no heat. No heat, no life. That's the equation.
Wife: No Jack. May i assume the upshot of all this is that you wont be easing gracefully into retirement?
Jack: Goddamn right baby. What am i gonna retire from? Life? Listen, we haven't started yet. This is a 12-rounder and this is the third round and you and I are going to go out of here like Halley's comet."
