SO i finally got down to watching Marie Antoinette and i must say i was filled with mixed reactions..Well, the set, the props, the costumes, the location, everything from the decadent mouth watering pastries to the intricate floral bouquets to the flamboyant floor sweeping gowns were paid the most immaculate of details to.the visuals were undoubtedly, in itself, a feast for the eyes, and it got me oohing and ahhing the whole time..its like i wanted to pause every 5secs of the movie to digest whatever pretty sights ther were. i can go on raving bout this but wad struck me was that it seemed to pay an unbelievable amount of attention to all these while the content itself was pretty bland and blah.and it was slightly disturbing the way the characters retained their accents and spoke in a manner completely out of line with that period. at some points in time, i really felt as though i was watching some frivolous chick flick..jus that its frivolity was concealed by the majestic and overwhelming scale of the set and whatnots.
But then, i was won over when i viewed the trailers of the shooting process.the interview w the author of the book and the views some characters gave on the movie made it seem like the director was pure genius- how she was able to set a period film in modern context and give it a refreshing take. but it was the attention to details that jus blew me away.they actually matched the colours of the macaroons to the gowns the girls were wearing!!okay so perhaps all that i mentioned above were exactly what her intentions were. i see i see...in that case, it made more sense to me...haha.i ll def be watchin it again to take in all the pretty and lovely sights..its like i could imagine every single scene on a postcard or poster!Stunning.
