a midsummer day's dream

So last friday was assessment for the comm module and long story cut short, i was late and denied the chance to present and hand up my work. but fortunately, after waiting for 3 hours,i sneaked in during the break and managed to present. However, i am uncertain if they'll actually even grade me. so i m threading the tight rope now and keepin those fingers crossed.

this is the product i can proudly say i helmed for the group project..and i must say i m pretty pleased with the results..three takes, constantly changing ideas, group debates and some frustration and obstacles along the way finally culminated in this, which i titled:

//a midsummer day's dream//

and here's the accompanying text-
Summer marks the start of endless carefree days, where books and school take a backseat and sweet insouciance fills the air. Sun drenched picnics and lazy book reading sessions fill the day as best girlfriends indulge in idle chatter and merriment. The extensive lawn and secluded corners of the house lull the girls into their fantastical worlds where time is momentarily suspended. The surreal dreamlike quality of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland lends inspiration to this shoot as we borrow its absurdist takes on the polite tea parties, eccentric dons, and Alice’s childlike innocence- all in the luxury of your own home.

Sailor jackets, leopard print leggings, straw bowler hats, camel knits, highwaisted denim and crazy prints culminate in the celebration of girlish youth and exuberance. From the jester inspired ensemble to the forlorn looking prairie girl to the understated propriety of the librarian lady, we transform the girls into various characters. The home lends itself another meaning as we seek to discover it in a new light. So go on, play dress-up and invite your friends over- throw a tea party or simply basks in each other’s company. Escape the rigour and monotony of work and enter the realms of your imagination.

oh and may i add, i'd really like to thank the models- corinne & grace.
you two made a sweet team. even ginette said so. *winks*

taking the mickey outta things

These are the people on the streets of Helsinki.

Sandra (17)
"I buy every pair of shoes that make me laugh. These Reebok sneakers I bought in Denmark.I collect children's backpacks. The uglier the better. I make all my jewellery myself. My jeans are from Vero Moda sale, the t-shirt from Urban Outfitters. The must-item for next summer: a bum bag."

Emmi (20)
"I designed and made the dress for a school project. The starting point was rococo style. The figures imitate the shape of teeth. The dress is made of recycled linen and upholstery leather. The bag is made of an old fur hat. Christopher Kane SS08 collection, layers and contrasts inspire me. For my thesis I'm making clothes of leather and tights

Eva (85)
"I like all things feminine. I like clothes and like to make them myself, too. Clothes and the dress as a whole are important. I like to wear hats. Colours need to tone in. I only buy good quality materials. I like colours because they give nice variety. Violet and pink are my favourite colour.

These people are so amazing and inspiring, they bring fashion to a whole new level that i guess is infathomable by mere normal beings. The first picture, for instance, made me chuckle to myself. I love her attitude of not taking herself and fashion too seriously. And the fact that they all have so much to say, it just goes to show that it goes beyond the physical but seeps right down to their ideaology of art, life and beauty. There is so so much leeway for expression and creativity there, its just sick.

All i can say is, finnish people represent the epitomy of cool. Dont anyhow use cool okay.

we are waving flags now

okay i just had group discussion and i am definitely feeling the heat of doing a group project. i cant lead in a group. period. Anyhow, tomorrow's our third and final take for the shoot and i m vexed vexed vexed. And certain members rub me the wrong way at times. But, i guess its normal. Like what keli says, its time i be more decisive and take charge. i guess.

and yesterday, we were talkin about dreams.
me: (proudly declares) haha i never had nightmares before you know..
Adriel, remy and mong: (in unison and in chorus) because you are the nightmare!!!

Guys, i ll always bear that in mind.

and today, i went on a solitary trip cos i had to get school materials. i love solitary trips once in while, just basking in your own company. You realise how differerent it is going to the same place and doing the same things, but alone. Somehow you see alot more and realise alot more.
You should too, just for kicks.
